Summit Shuttles provides transport from the National Park – Park and Ride Transport Hub. If you’re a well-prepared, competent winter alpine tramper, it can be a fantastic experience. If you aren’t experienced and equipped for alpine travel, choose another track.

We have the best schedule due to our 7 departures times and all afternoon pick ups which the client does not need to book. You don’t have to drive your car every morning. That’s if you stay at accommodation with a shuttle pick up. We operate in and around New Zealand’s oldest national park and a dual World Heritage Site. This section of track is home to the “Devil’s Staircase”, a 200 metre climb that takes place in a very short distance.

Depending on which service you choose, the shuttle will either pick you up at the lodge or take you to a point just a few steps away. We offer a one way Tongariro Alpine Crossing shuttle service hourly from the Tongariro shuttle car park at the finish point of the hike to the starting point Mangatepopo. You will be picked up at the Ketitahi Carpark, and transferred back to National Park Village. Allow 20 minutes from Tongariro Suites to drive, park your car and check in for your shuttle. We can also arrange it for you if you check in before 5. There is no need to book more then a day in advance as the shuttles are very much weather dependant.

There’re many companies operating shuttles to and from the Crossing. The way this works is you drive to Ketetahi in the morning and park your car there for the day. A shuttle will take you to the start, and you’ll walk back to your car. Tongariro Crossing Lodge works with local shuttle operators to provide transport to and from the Tongariro Alpine Crossing for our guests.

They’ll pick up and drop off at various locations on the way there and back. Staying in National Park, Owhango, Whakapapa or Ohakune will increase your morning travel time. It can take an extra 30 minutes or more to get to the start of the Crossing. The reason for this is you’ll drive to Ketetahi, find a park, find your shuttle and travel back to the start in the shuttle.

You can be sure that your car will be there when you need it – and you won’t have to wait for another shuttle service. The car park closes at 7pm, which is ample time to get back.
